Thanks for joining us today. Today's gonna be a special show. I'm an alumni of Texas Tech University and I'm also a veterinarian and today, we're going to beam down to Amarillo, Texas to see this New School of Veterinary Medicine is being created at Texas Tech University to support the people of West Texas and we're going to meet up with the Dean of that School of Veterinary Medicine Dr. Guy Loneragan, and Associate Dean Britt Conklin.
Today's Guests:
Guy H. Loneragan, BVSc, PhD grew up in rural Australia and was introduced to the veterinary profession while working with his veterinarian father on the family livestock operation which housed a pioneering embryo transfer center. After completing his veterinary degree he traveled to the US which led to his PhD is in Epidemiology from Colorado State University. He moved to the Panhandle to work at WTAMU in 2002 and then moved Texas Tech in 2010. Prior to his role in the School, he was a Professor in Tech's Department of Animal and Food Sciences.
Britt Conklin, DVM is the Associate Dean for Clinical Programs and a Professor. He grew up on a farming and ranching operation in the panhandle of Texas and has a diverse agricultural and veterinary background. He attended both Texas Tech University and Texas A&M University and was an owner of a large equine referral practice in Weatherford Texas. His practice interests are in sports medicine and podiatry. He was a Senior Equine Professional Services Veterinarian for Boehringer-Ingelheim before joining the Texas Tech School of Veterinary Medicine. His specialty, within industry, was focused on performance horse pharmaceuticals and chronic diseases that affect lameness and the feet of horses.
Courtney Pace, DVM is a veterinarian in a small town in Texas who is partnering with Texas Tech to give vet students real life experience in their fourth year. Follow Courtney on Facebook @courtneyjpacedvm .

Today, I'm gonna have a friend a dear friend and colleague Dr. Randall Spare. He is the owner and operator of Ashland Veterinary Center down in Ashland, Kansas. He is probably one of the most world-renowned cow, calf and seedstock veterinarians. And today he's gonna be on the show with us, sharing his expertise on how do you select a bull for your herd?
About Dr. Spare: Randall Spare is President of AVC. Randall is a graduate of K-State’s School of Veterinary Medicine. He focuses on bovine care, especially cow-calf production. He enjoys being a part of live cattle exportation and providing consultation for a large integrated beef cattle operation in southwest Russia. Through dedication and teamwork, AVC has become the largest veterinary practice in southwest Kansas. Randall and his wife, Michelle, are parents to five children: Anna, Bethany, Mark, Abigail and John.

On this episode, I meet with Dr. Dawn Koltes at Iowa State University. We are visiting the turkey's Corn and Cob in their beautiful turkey palace! Before coming to reside at Iowa State, Corn and Cob received a Presidential pardon. This saved them from the Thanksgiving dinner table and made it possible for them to be with us today.
In addition to admiring these handsome fellows, I also take some time to talk turkey. Dr. Koltes gets me up to speed on the turkey industry, Iowa and beyond!
